Practice these concepts at home to strengthen concepts learned in the classroom:
Handwriting- Practice writing letters and numbers neatly and correctly, practicing use of cursive
Basic addition and subtraction facts- Practicing strategies to remember these facts them will help to build on concepts learned in the classroom such as double/triple addition and subtraction
Reading instructions- Reminding students to take their time and carefully read instructions will ensure that they do not make silly mistakes on assessments such as mixing up addition or subtraction signs, or not answering a question fully.
Reading Fluency- As students complete their reading log throughout the week, it can be helpful to listen to reading and assist in pointing out punctuation such as commas, exclamation points, and question marks. This will help to practice fluency and expression while reading. Asking questions about a passage that the student has just read will help to enhance reading comprehension.
