Volunteers & Clearances

Dear Parents and Volunteers,

The success of our school depends largely on you, our parents. Your willingness to volunteer your time and talent is greatly appreciated!

Archdiocesan policy requires “All Volunteers” who have any possible contact with children to obtain background checks and complete the required training. These clearances are required of all volunteers including field trip chaperones, ice cream parents, and/or any volunteer who is here on a weekly basis.

The following background checks and training programs are required:

1.  PA State Police Criminal Record Check

   The background check can be obtained online with results available within a few minutes.  https://epatch.pa.gov/home Please print & forward a copy of this certificate to the school office. Renewal is required every 5 years.

2. PA Department of Public Welfare Child Abuse Clearance Check

   The clearance can be obtained online at:  https://www.compass.state.pa.us/cwis/public/home. Once certificate is emailed to you please print & forward a copy of this certificate to the school office. Renewal is required every 5 years.

3. Required Safe Environment Training (3 Parts):
   1. Safe Environment Part I: Protecting God's Children (in-person)
      Provides basic facts about child sexual abuse and the adults’ roles in prevention. To register go to: https://www.virtusonline.org/virtus/reg_list2.cfm?theOrgID=18461&theme=0

   2. Mandated Reporting of Suspected Child Abuse (Safe Environment Part II)Mandated Reporting of Suspected Child Abuse provides an overview of Archdiocesan reporting procedures for suspected child abuse and Pennsylvania Child Welfare Laws. Mandatory Reporting of Child Sexual Abuse, is available in English and Spanish.   Click here  to login to the Training Institute and begin the training.

   3. Technology Addendum
      This training module is only pertinent to those staff and volunteers who attended the Safe Environment/Protecting God's Children Training before July 1, 2011. From this date forward the addendum has been included in the new Safe Environment Foundational Training. Please click here for further information.
