February & March: During the past couple of months, 4th grade has been working on the following in Spanish: using Spanish adjectives as often as we can, we played Spanish adjectives charades, Valentine phrases in Spanish, expressions of courtesy (we thought up situations and tried to guess which courteous Spanish phrase would be best to use), Spring vocabulary words, we described a Spring picture in Spanish (our adjectives came in very handy), family member words, and Spanish animals we see at the pet store.
January: This month 4th graders have been working on the following in Spanish class:
telling time, using time with action words we learned last month, (for example, "I eat at 12:00" -"como a las doce"),Spanish adjectives, and the Spanish word for snowman (hombre de nieve). Some activities we did: We made clocks expressing our favorite time and wrote out the time in Spanish, we described our friends using Spanish adjectives, and we created our very own "hombre de nieve" and labeled him using as many Spanish adjectives as possible!
December: 4th graders have been hard at work this month learning all about Spanish action words, how to identify them and use them in short sentences such as, "Hablo Espanol en clase" (I speak Spanish in class). We did a fun Charades game to help us with this lesson which the students really enjoyed. To help us get into the spirit of Christmas, we learned some Spanish Christmas words "Calcetin" (stocking) and "Arbol de la Navidad" (Christmas tree) and we did some fun activities to help us practice these words. Finally, we talked about some Christmas traditions in Latin America.
November: During this month, students have been learning food vocabulary, how to say "I like" and "don't like", food skits in small groups, a lunchbox listening activity, and a short Spanish Thanksgiving play.
October: This month 4th grade has been working on the following in Spanish:
Haunted house pictures, rooms in the house, Halloween words, simple sentences such as,
there is a skeleton in the kitchen, food vocabulary, feed the monster game, and simple food skits.
