Dear HFS Families,
While it is chilly today, I am heartened to see that much of the snow has melted, and we have been trying to get the students outside for some good old fashioned fresh air. The change of scenery, I’m sure, has been beneficial to them. I see in the long range forecast that some warmer weather is coming our way, which is very exciting. The thought of hearing the kids outside, laughing and playing, is the best indicator of Spring.
Principal’s Spotlight
This week, I would like to shine the light on Mrs. Linda Gorman. Mrs. Gorman is our 3rd Grade teacher, and I always enjoy stopping by to see the goings on in her classroom. The students are an exuberant bunch, and their love of learning is contagious. I love seeing their work hanging in the hallway, and they are always excited to share what they are working on with me.
One of the things I love seeing most is the attention that Mrs. Gorman gives each and every student. It is apparent that each child is just as important as the next, and she devotes not just class time to them, but also time during her specials, in addition to the planning that goes into her lessons. The support that she provides all of her students is exceptional.
Terra Nova Testing
Terra Novas begin next week on Thursday, 3/11 for 1st through 8th Grades. Please make sure to send in your children with at least two #2 pencils and a good eraser. Testing will take place in the mornings, and regular classes will resume once they are finished.
In addition to the pencils and erasers, your children should make sure to get a good night’s sleep and eat a healthy breakfast in the morning. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Lenten Food Drive
Each year, Mrs. Seiverd and her 6th Grade students organize a Lenten food drive for the Ancient Order of Hibernians. This week, she is asking for students to bring in prepared foods. These are items such as macaroni and cheese, Hamburger Helper, instant mashed potatoes, etc. Her goal is for the students to contribute 2,000 pieces of food. If they achieve this goal, the entire school will receive a dress down day. Our students and families are doing a great job so far! It is amazing to work with such generous people. “Whoever cares for the poor lends to the Lord, Who will pay back the sum in full” (Proverbs 19:17).
Lunch Parent Volunteers
March is here, and the weather seems to be turning slowly but surely. We are still in need of help with our recess monitors. If you have any time available, and you can offer your services to monitor the children during their recess, it would be greatly appreciated. Our teachers would be so grateful. Click here to see what days are available.
