Dear HFS Families,
It’s hard to believe that a year ago tomorrow marks the day that we received the news we were being shut down for 2 weeks because of the Coronavirus, and then for the remainder of the year. While last Spring was incredibly difficult for our students, staff, and families, we also showed our resiliency by coming together. That same resilience has continued to be a presence within our community this year.
I was at a principals’ meeting this week , and part of the morning prayer asked us to reflect on whether we felt hopeful or lost during this unprecedented time. For me, I believe that I felt hopeful more often than not. I spent more time with my family, and I grew closer to the HFS community. In working with the HFS community and the Office of Catholic Education, we were able to open our doors and resume live in-person instruction this past September, and look at us now! If that doesn’t fill your heart with hope, I don’t know what will! “We know that all things work for good for those who love God, who are called according to His purpose” (Romans 8:28).
Principal’s Spotlight
This week, I would like to shine a light on Ms. Julia DiCastelnuovo, otherwise known as Ms. D. Ms. D is new to us this year, and she has jumped in like a true professional. As many teachers have needed to do this year, Ms. D has had both virtual and in person students, and this is all during her first year as a teacher. She consistently shows us her motivation to learn and do right by her students, as she consistently seeks out advice and suggestions from other staff members. She also provides her students with a strong support system during the school day.
Recently, Ms. D fell victim to Covid and had to quarantine along with her class. She opted to continue working with her students everyday so that they wouldn’t fall behind. That is dedication, and we are so grateful to have her with us!
Terra Novas
Terra Novas began this week, and so far, the students are handling them well. Please make sure that your child(ren) gets a good night’s sleep each night and eats a good breakfast each morning. Additionally, the students need #2 pencils with good erasers.
As a special treat, the students may opt to wear their gym uniforms next week so that they’re just a little bit more comfortable during the testing.
Lenten Food Drive
Each year, Mrs. Seiverd and her 6th Grade students organize a Lenten food drive for the Ancient Order of Hibernians. This week, she is asking for students to bring in canned goods, such as soups, vegetables, etc. Please support their efforts!
Lunch Parent Volunteers
We are still in desperate need of help with our recess monitors. If you have any time available, and you can offer your services to monitor the children during their recess, it would be greatly appreciated. Our teachers would be so grateful. Thanks to all of you who have been so faithful so far! Click here to see what days are available.
Attachment
As many of you know, Pennsylvania is beginning to ease up Covid restrictions, which is very exciting. However, I ask that you still be vigilant as much as you can. We have made it this far with minimal incidents, and for that, I am so thankful.
I have attached a letter from the Office of Catholic Education regarding travel. I know many of you are longing for a change of scenery, but please continue to be cautious. We would like to continue for the remainder of the year with as few incidents as possible.
