Hello Incoming 5th Graders!
Please read the following book before 1st day of school.

Hope you enjoy reading this book. Don't forget to bring it to school on first day. Be sure to jot down any notes while you are reading that may be helpful for class discussions. We will discuss the book and complete a book review that will count as grade during the first weeks of school..

Please bring in..Art Smock -- An old oversized T-shirt or button down shirt (something that can be ruined), placed in a zip lock bag labeled with student's name.
Art - A spiral-bound sketch book/drawing book with at least 30 blank pages. – 9x12 or 8.5x11 (Does NOT have to be "high quality" paper.....these books can be purchased at Target / Walmart for around $5) or use the one from last year.

A few Reminders:Effort Respect - Be prepared for class
- Complete all homework and classwork
- Charge Chromebook before school
- Follow the dress code
- Work to your fullest potential
- Be silent when others are speaking
- Keep your hands to yourself/property

Attendance
Please call or email office and teacher if you child will not be in school.- Your child is considered late if he/she is not in homeroom by 8:10am
- If your child is absent:
- You must notify the office and teacher by phone or email
- A homework buddy will record assignments/important dates received in school
- Student will complete ALL work upon returning to school
- NO WORK WILL BE SENT HOME PRIOR TO A SCHOOL ABSENCE with the exception of Honors Math
- It is the responsibility of the student to check in with the teacher upon returning to school
- Please note: your child cannot come into school if they have had a fever or stomach virus in the past 24 hours.
- Your student must be symptom free (without medication) for at least 24 hours
Appointments- Please do your best to schedule appointments for after the school day
Homework/Grading- Homework is expected to be turned in on time. Students are expected to copy assignments in their assignment book daily. Homework will be posted on each teacher’s site.
- Each teacher uses a grading system unique to their own class. Please see individual teacher for more details. Mine is posted on my homework site.
- All teachers use the HFS Communication Calendar
- Codes are included on calendar. Must be signed weekly.
- Grade 5 should be signed every Thursday.

If your family is experiencing difficulties at home, I would like to provide additional support at school. I understand that you are not always able to share details about what is going on and that is completely okay. If your child is coming to school after a “hard Night,Morning, or Weekend” please email me “Handle With Care.” Nothing else will be asked or said, this will let me know that your child may need extra help, patience,time, and love during the day.
