Dear HFS Families,
Happy Friday on this beautiful day! I can’t believe that we are just about through October! The halls are adorned with the students’ work, and I love seeing their hard work on display.
Principal’s Spotlight
This week, I’d like to shine a light on Mrs. Mary Mizii. Mrs. Mizii is our 5th/6th teacher, and she has been here for 20+ years, not to mention has been teaching in Catholic schools for almost 40 years. To say that she is committed to Catholic education is an understatement! Not only is she devoted to Catholic education, but she is devoted to the HFS staff. Mrs. Mizii consistently goes above and beyond what is required of her. She always offers to help when others need it. This could be with new teachers, students, covering a class, or helping in the office. She is the perfect role model for what it means to live your faith day in and day out. “For we walk by faith, not by sight” (2 Corinthians 5:7). We are blessed to have her as a part of our family!
Lunch Change
As many of you know, our Kindergarten through 2nd Grade lunch group is a large group. We have noticed, especially in the recess yard, that it can be too much at times. It has been decided that 2nd Grade’s lunch and recess will now be with the 3rd and 4th Grades. This means that lunch will begin at 11:40AM, and they will go outside at 12:05PM. I believe this will create a more balanced time for all of the children as they eat with their friends and play outside. This will begin on Monday, 10/31.
Haunted House
Don’t forget that our very own Student Council is hosting a haunted house tomorrow evening between 6:00 and 8:00PM. There are a variety of levels of scares so all of our students will be able to enjoy themselves. A flier is attached with more information.
Halloween
Monday, 10/31 will be a dress down day for all students and staff. For our PreK through 4th Grade students, please send costumes with your child(ren) in a bag labeled with his/her name. Weapon-type props should be left at home.
The Halloween Parade will be at 1:30PM. We will process out of the building, onto 3rd Avenue and walk down to Main Street. We will cross Main Street and parade to the Rectory Lawn. Please feel free to come and watch the parade!
We are keeping an eye on the weather. As of now, it looks like it should be ok, but we will send out an Option C communication if anything changes.
Free Breakfast
A few weeks ago, Governor Wolf signed a bill bringing back free breakfast for students. Beginning on Tuesday, 11/8, we will be offering that to our students. The menu will include a grain item (cereal bar/PopTart), graham crackers or animal crackers, juice, and a fruit component. Each student’s order will be bagged and they can pick it up in the cafeteria on the way to their classrooms.
Winter Uniforms
Winter uniforms begin on Wednesday, November 2nd. Please consult our Parent-Student Handbook for more information.
Just a reminder regarding gym uniforms - shorts/sweatpants should be black or maroon sweatpants with no additional logos/colors. SquadLocker and Flynn O’Hara are the only acceptable options.
November Lunch Volunteers
Thank you so much to our parents who continue to give of their time during lunch each day. Our November Sign Up Genius has been published. If you are available, please consider signing up for a day here or there. Click here to get started.
Home and School
Don’t forget that the Pies and Poinsettia orders are due in the school office on Tuesday, 11/8. The poinsettias are beautiful, the pies are delicious, and you’re helping to support HFS by purchasing 1 or both! It’s a win-win!
Picture Day
Picture day is coming up on Thursday, 11/10. Students should be in their winter uniform for their pictures.
