Dear HFS Families,
It’s hard to believe that it’s March already! March can seem like a long month, but for me, it’s a time to look forward to the weather beginning to turn. Spring is coming - we’re experiencing some more temperate days, the sun is shining a little brighter, and the birds are singing their springtime songs. “Let us know, let us strive to know the Lord; as certain as the dawn is His coming. He will come to us like the rain, like spring rain that waters the earth” (Hosea 6:3).
Principal’s Spotlight
This week, I would like to shine the light on our Student Council. These young men and women are so full of passion and love for their school and community. They come up with so many wonderful project ideas and spirit days, and they truly know how to invigorate our students and teachers.
I would especially like to mention the Executive Board. I have the pleasure of having a lunch meeting with them regularly, and it is never dull. The ideas that they come up with are fun, creative, and exciting. Our meetings are full of laughter and teasing, and it’s one of the highlights of my week. I am grateful that we have such strong leaders in our midst!
Terra Nova Testing
Terra Nova testing began today for our students in 3rd through 8th Grades. They will continue Monday through Friday of next week each morning. Please make sure your child(ren) are getting a good rest each night and starting the day with a satisfying breakfast. Arriving on time is imperative as testing begins promptly at 8:30AM. If students arrive after that time, they will need to wait in the office until a break in testing.
For any students who are absent, we will administer make-up tests in the afternoon throughout next week.
Friendly Reminder
Please be aware that our doors do not open for the day until 7:45AM. Students should not be dropped off and left alone outside prior to that time. The school nor the teachers can be held responsible if anything should happen prior to that time.
If you need to drop your child(ren) off earlier than that, I would suggest that you sign up for CARES or make arrangements for your child(ren) to take the bus.
Continuous Enrollment
Registration is open for the 2022-2023 school year. If you have not signed up for Continuous Enrollment yet, please do so. This is an easy way to guarantee that your child(ren) has a spot reserved for them from now through their 8th Grade year. This process will allow you to skip the registration process for the remainder of your child(ren)’s time here at HFS.
If this is something in which you’re not interested, or you do not plan on returning to HFS for the 2022-2023 school year, please complete the Opt Out form.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our Advancement Director, Mrs. McNerney or the principal, Mrs. D’Amelio.
6th Grade Lent Food Collection
Each year, Mrs. Seiverd and the 6th Grade collect nonperishable food items throughout the Lenten season. The food items are collected by the Hibernan Hunger Drive and then distributed to the Patrician Society of Norristown through the Notre Dame Division 1. The homeroom that brings in the most food items wins a dress down day. The food item for next week is canned goods. Please bring in items like soup, vegetables, etc.
March Lunch Volunteer Sign Up
Aside from our steady enders, we have no parents signed up to volunteer as monitors during lunch recess. If you have any availability to help monitor the students during that time, we would be most grateful. By volunteering your time, teachers get to have a few minutes to eat their lunches and get ready for the afternoon session. Without volunteers, teachers are losing that precious time.
If you are on the Approved Chaperone List, click here to see what days and times are available. Any little bit helps! A big thank you to those of you who have been consistently giving of your time!
HFS CYO Blood Drive
The 4th annual HFS/CYO Blood Drive will be held on Friday March 11th from 2:30-7:30pm at the Technical College High School - Pickering Campus. There is currently a national blood shortage, and the American Red Cross could use our help.
