Principal's Post January 20,2023

Dear HFS Families,

As we end another week here at HFS, we are moving closer to our annual Catholic Schools Week celebration as well as our centennial. We have a number of exciting events planned here at school, and we’re looking forward to being able to celebrate as a community.

Viruses

We are seeing an uptick in viruses over the last week or so. Any student who has a fever and/or is experiencing vomiting or diarrhea should remain home and be symptom-free for at least 24 hours. Any missed work will be made up when he/she returns.

Principal’s Spotlight

There are a few people I would like to shine a light on this week. Earlier this week, Mrs. McNerney received a lovely email from one of our 1st grade parents regarding some of our 7th Grade boys - Brendan M., John Pe., John Pi., and Vincent S. While ice skating this past Monday afternoon, they saw Lukas W., who happens to be one of the older boys’ prayer partners. In the email, Mr. W. stated that “They were extremely friendly with Lukas, supported him in his efforts to become more steady on the skates, and generally displayed a very relaxed and joyful demeanor. Those kids are a great example of courtesy and pleasantness.” I am so proud of these boys, and we are blessed to have such excellent role models for our students. “Let no one have contempt for your youth, but set an example for those who believe, in speech, conduct, love, faith, and purity” (1 Timothy 4:12).

Catholic Schools Week

• Saturday, 1/28 & 1/29 - Vigil Mass/Sunday Mass - Students are encouraged to attend Mass in their uniforms with their families.
• Monday, 1/30 - Celebrating Our Students
  • Themed dress down day for students (theme to be determined)
  • No homework
• Tuesday, 1/31 - Celebrating Our Community
  • Students will make cards for shut-ins
  • Collecting disinfectant wipes and crackers - please send in with your child(ren)
• Wednesday, 2/1 - Celebrating Our Education
  • Academic Challenge for the Students
• Thursday, 2/2 - Celebrating Our Faith, Family, and 100th Birthday
  • Students will wear “100 day shirts” over their uniforms.
    • Shirts will be held by the homeroom teachers and distributed on this day.
  • 9:30AM Mass in the Chapel
  • Grandparents/Special Pals are invited to Mass and then back to school to visit the classrooms and enjoy cupcakes in honor of Holy Family School’s 100th birthday.
    • Please respond to the evite that was sent out last week to let us know who will be in attendance and to which student(s) he/she belongs. Click here for the evite.
• Friday, 2/3 - Celebrating Our Faculty/Staff and Panther Olympics
  • Students are to dress in their gym uniforms.
    • Colored bands will be distributed to them to indicate the team colors.
    • Students will participate in a variety of games/activities for Panther Olympics.

Centennial Collection

As our Centennial year progresses, we have been trying to collect 100 items of a certain type each month. This month, we are trying to collect 100 cleaning wipes (Clorox, Lysol, etc.). These items are then donated to organizations within the Phoenixville community. Help us support the community which has supported us over the last 100 years!

Dine and Donate

This month is a special Dine and Donate opportunity as it will be every Tuesday through the month of January. If you’re just not in the mood to cook or you’re looking to get out of the house, enjoy the delicious offerings of Iron Hill Brewery on Bridge Street in Phoenixville. Show the attached flyer to your server, and HFS will receive 20% of your food bill. Such an easy way to support HFS!
