On Monday, Nov. 25 we will be welcoming two guests to our school to speak with the students about Mission Education. Sister Lisa will be arriving with Maureen R. Rilling, Mission Education Coordinator, Pontifical Mission Societies, Archdiocese of Philadelphia.
Sr. Lisa Valentini, MSC, a member of the Missionary Sisters of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, spent many years in mission among the people of the Dominican Republic in the poor town of El Factor, where she ran two pre-schools. Today, Sr. Lisa works in various capacities from the MSC community in Reading, PA but she also continues to benefit the people of the Dominican Republic by conducting mission experience trips and raising awareness. During the summer and winter months, Sr. Lisa provides Mission Experiences for American teenagers and adults. For many of the people who participate as mission partners, their lives are forever changed. By day, the mission partners complete various tasks aimed at helping the community thrive. By evening, Sr. Lisa provides a time of prayer and reflection in addition to the celebration of the Mass. Sr. Lisa asks each mission partner where they have seen God during the day. Students and adults alike soon realize that there is much to be learned by opening one’s heart and mind to Jesus’ Sacred Heart which is present in to the poor. The mission of Sr. Lisa Valentini, MSC, and many like her continues to enable God’s people to open up and to be transformed; to be the Heart of God on earth. Sr. Lisa first traveled on mission to Haiti in 1991. She has returned three times since the January 2010 earthquake. From 1989 to 1996, Sister Lisa served as Mission Education Coordinator for the Pontifical Mission Societies in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia
