Dear HFS Families,
What a crazy week this has been - snow, Catholic Schools’ Week, and the raspberry that was heard around the world...or at least in the Option C phone call sent on Tuesday evening by yours truly!
Despite the crazy beginning, I can say that this was a great week! Students and staff alike enjoyed celebrating Catholic Schools’ Week in a variety of ways. We celebrated our education with the Academic Challenge; we showed our students just how much we appreciate them with the gift of no homework and a day focused on fun; and we showcased our school spirit with a Covid-safe modified Panther Olympics! What a whirlwind the past 3 days have been! If you haven’t seen any of the activities from this week, check out our Facebook page. You don’t need an account to view our page as it is public. Principal’s Spotlight
This week, I would like to shine the light on our entire HFS community - students, staff, and families. This year has been a challenge, to say the least, and we have worked together to both overcome that challenge and work together in a beautiful partnership. “For we are God’s co-workers; you are God’s field, God’s building” (1 Corinthians 3:9). I have never been prouder of where I work and the people with whom I work than I am now. We are HFS strong and HFS proud!
Lunch Volunteers
Thank you so much to all of our parents who have taken some time from their busy schedules to volunteer during lunch recess. It is appreciated more than you know! There are still plenty of empty slots for February, so please, if you can, help us out! Click here if you are available to sign up for a spot of two in February.
Substitute Teachers
We are always in need of qualified substitute teachers! If you are currently “at-home momming” or a retired teacher, we would be delighted to add you to our sub list! Please call the office at 610-933-7562 for details.
Terra Nova Testing
Terra Nova Tests will be administered to students in 1st through 8th grades this year, beginning March 11th and ending March 19th. This is wonderful news as it will provide us with much needed data on our students, and this will go a long way in helping us to better understand them. Please see the attached letter from our Secretary of Elementary Education Dr. Andrew McLaughlin.
For our virtual students, the only way to take the tests is to come into the building. They can either take the tests with their class, or we can arrange for them to take the tests in a different classroom with fewer students. If you have any questions, please feel free to let me know.
Safe 2 Say Something
We will be having a virtual assembly with Safe 2 Say Something for 6th through 8th grades on Monday, February 8th. For those of you who don’t know this organization, they are partnered with Sandy Hook Promise and the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General. Their mission is to provide young people with the tools if they recognize the signs that their peers might pose a threat to themselves or others. The website and app allow young people to make anonymous tips to alert the appropriate authorities in these types of situations. Click here for more information.
This can be a difficult subject for the students, and I encourage you to speak with your children after the assembly. If, for some reason, you would prefer that your child(ren) not attend the assembly, please let me and your child(ren)’s homeroom teacher know, and he/she may sit in my office during that time.
