English Language Arts is a 2 period block. In the time allotted for the ELA block, HFS students are instructed in Grammar, Vocabulary, Literature, Writing and Speaking & Listening.
Three major report card grades are earned each trimester: Reading Writing Listening and Speaking.
The Reading Grade is weighted: Participation 10% (dsicuss readings and participate in class work) Classwork and Homework 20% (prepared and on-time) Quizzes 30% Tests and Projects 40%
The Writing Grade is weighted: Participation 10% (participate actively in writing workshop and peer-editing) Classwork and Homework 20% (prepared and on-time) Quizzes 30% (Vocabulary quizzes - weekly) Tests and Essays 40% (Most essays will be written in class - Tests are on grammar textbook and activities)
The Listening and Speaking grade is earned through a blend of..... Lessons and activities that teach - thoughtful and appropriate classroom discussion and listening techniques. (student participation is tracked and recorded on a tracking sheet) - Impromptu speeches - Prayer recitation - Presentations This grade is not weighted and will be calculated by dividing points earned by points possible.
Homework will be posted on Google Classroom Tests and quizzes will be assigned in advance
