Although the HFS Fundraiser is over, you can still donate to THON, which is the largerst student run philanthropy in the world, through this link: donate.thon.org/ . THON is committed to enhancing the lives of children and families impacted by childhood cancer. Their mission is to provide emotional and financial support, spread awareness, and ensure fundin for critical research--all in pursuit of a cure.
By donating to THON, you are not only donating to research on finding a cure but also so that no family has to see the bills of cancer treatments and hospitalizations. At Penn State, student organizations are paired with families who have a child with cancer. These organizations form relationships with children who have cancer and their families' by doing fun activities with them such as going to a trampoline park, having an ice cream sundae bar, and going to sports games. Here are a few statistics about childhood cancer. Every school day, 43 children are diagnosed with cancer. There are over 12 types of pediatric cancer and 100 subtypes--THON is fighting to cure them all! The average cost of a stay in the hospital for a child with cancer per day is nearly 5 times the cost of any other pediatric condition.
